GAA Off-Season Performance Program

Develop your speed. Build your engine. Return to pre-season ahead of the competition.

Led by Davey Loughman, The Speed Project's GAA Off-Season Performance Program is designed specifically for Gaelic football athletes looking to maximise their off-season and return faster, fitter and more explosive.

The program combines evidence-based speed development, conditioning and strength training to improve the physical qualities that have the greatest transfer to on-field performance.

Initial Performance Testing

Every athlete begins with an individual testing session to establish a baseline and guide their training throughout the program.

Testing includes:

  • 0–20m Sprint – Acceleration performance

  • Flying 20m Sprint – Maximum speed assessment

  • Resisted Sprint Profile (T-APEX) – Individual force, power and velocity profiling

  • 2km Time Trial – Aerobic capacity assessment

  • CMJ / Drop Jump (Output Sport) - Jump ability (Height, GCT / RSI)

Testing results are used to individualise training and measure improvements across the off-season.

Weekly Training

Athletes complete structured weekly training focused on developing:

  • Acceleration

  • Maximum speed

  • Sprint mechanics

  • Aerobic conditioning

  • Running efficiency

  • Strength and power (Tier 2 & 3)

All programming is delivered through the TeamBuildr app, allowing athletes to follow a structured plan each week.

Tier 1 – Speed & Conditioning

Designed for athletes wanting a structured speed and conditioning program.

Includes:

  • Initial performance testing

  • 1 × coached Speed & Aerobic session each Saturday (Moorabbin)

  • Weekly speed and aerobic programming delivered via TeamBuildr

  • Performance monitoring throughout the program

Tier 2 – Performance Athlete

For athletes wanting to combine speed development with structured strength training.

Includes everything in Tier 1, plus:

  • 1 × coached Group Gym session each Wednesday evening

  • Weekly gym programming delivered via TeamBuildr

  • Fully integrated speed, aerobic and gym program

Tier 3 – Elite Performance

Our highest level of support for athletes committed to maximising their off-season.

Includes everything in Tier 2, plus:

  • Individual nutrition support

  • Ongoing nutritional guidance to optimise training, recovery and performance

Whether your goal is to improve your first few steps, increase top speed, build your aerobic capacity or arrive at pre-season in peak condition, Tier 3 provides a complete performance solution.
